Susan McGalla Is An Example of Professional Female Leadership

Statistics are showing companies with a staff that is gender-diverse are 15% more likely to outperform their competitors. Studies are also proving that companies that are ethnically diverse have a 35% higher chance of doing better than other businesses in their field. The main reason these companies are able to do so well is because they embrace new and innovative ideas. Having a group of people from different backgrounds in the workplace brings a fresh perspective to business. However, only a tiny percentage of S&P 500 companies are run by women.

It’s no secret that many women have a hard time getting into leadership positions in the corporate world. There are also women who have made their way to the top and continue to inspire other female professionals, and Susan McGalla is one of those women. McGalla shares that her upbringing had a lot to do with her success in business. She grew up with a dad who was a football coach and two brothers, which made her accustomed to working well with men and taught her that being female should never be seen as a barrier. Susan shares that she had to work just as hard as her male counterparts to get where she is, and she wasn’t given any breaks due to her gender.

McGalla started working at American Eagle Outfitters and worked her way up the corporate ladder. When she began working for the company, all the company’s executives were male. Before McGalla left American Eagle Outfitters, she held the position of president. She then went on to found P3 Executive Consulting, and is not the Vice President of Business Strategy and Creative Development for the Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s well known that the sports industry is saturated with men, and Susan McGalla has helped to make significant strides in this arena as well. She was part of the “wear what we want” movement so that fans would be motivated to purchase Steelers gear. She is known for her confidence in the workplace and started her career in a company that was willing to give her a chance to hone her professionalism and skill.

It’s also important to note that even though Susan McGalla’s professional success is inspiring, all women in the workforce are not afforded these opportunities. The issue of the “glass ceiling” is not new, and this is something that women have been addressing for quite some time. There are a number of networking opportunities for women these days, as well as sources of support and McCalla is committed to promoting these platforms to help women grow their businesses and create professional trends that can make business more lucrative for everyone.
